Dr. Hung V. Vu

Dr. Hung Vu is a former Board Certified Orthodontist. Currently, he is Lecturer at Unniversity of California (UCLA), Section of Orthodontics (teaching orthodontic residents); Orthodontist at Veteran Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (teaching residents of periodontics, prosthodontics, and GPR); and Professor Emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). He maintains his private practice in Fountain Valley, California.

Dr. Vu earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Washington, his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), and his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from University of Michigan (in Ann Arbor). While being a full professor (with tenure) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at CSULB, he went back to school and earned his D.D.S. from UCLA and then his Certificate of Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from New York University (NYU).

Dr. Vu is Reviewer for American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJODO) and Expert Consultant for Dental Board of California (DBC).

Dr. Vu co-wrote, with Dr. PhilipMelnick, Periodontist, the chapter “Orthodontics: Preventing & Treating Complications” in the book Best Practices in Dentistry: Avoiding and Treating Complications (ed. D.A. Termeie), published by John Wiley & Sons, 2016.

Dr. Vu is passionate about learning and teaching the combination of orthodontics and implant dentistry. He has incorporated many advanced techniques in implant dentistry, such as Fully-Guided Implant Placement with Surgical Guide, CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography), Sinus Lift, Dentin Graft, PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin), Sticky Bone, Horizontal and Vertical Ridge Augmentation. To get the proper credential, he finished the LLU/AAID Implant Maxicourse® 2017 at Loma Linda University (LLU), passed the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) written exam, and is working toward becoming Fellow of AAID and Diplomate of American Board of Implantology (ABOI). He is the class Co-President of LLU/AAID Implant Maxicourse® 2017. Dr. Vu has become a licensed phlebotomist, so he can legally draw blood for creating PRF and Sticky Bone, which are used in various procedures in oral surgery, periodontics, and implantology. The purpose is to promote better healing for the patients.

Dr. Vu currently has his own study club with a relatively large number of dentists as members.
